Sea Lions with Harper

May 26: Today we went with Harper and her family on an adventure to the Prospect Park Zoo. We got to ride the bus there (and home), which was super fun. And the zoo was awesome. Gabe and Harper were particularly excited about the napping kangaroos and watching the sea lions have their lunch.

May 25: Today was a beautiful day, so we headed out to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade to try out one of Gabe's favorite birthday presents: his NEW CAMERA!! He hasn't quite mastered the actual picture-taking, but boy does he love holding it up and saying, "click." He "took" a lot of pictures of the helicopters flying overhead (in town for Fleet Week) and one of mom. We think this is going to make for lots of fun adventures. Thanks Aunt Jaquie and Uncle Michael!

See You Later Alligator

May 23: Today Gabe and his whole daycare had a really fun performance for all the parents. The theme was "Rock 'n Roll" and Gabe's class sang and danced to the song, See You Later Alligator. That explains why he's been running around the house saying "see you later alligator, after a while crocodile." Then at the end of the show all the kids did the Twist. Most of them just stood there and looked for their parents (including Gabe), but it was a great event overall! We are pretty sure he liked the snacks/party afterward best, but who knows... maybe he's destined for performing greatness!

Soccer Socks

May 18: When Gabe woke up from his nap, he opened one more present: this AWESOME soccer outfit from his Uncle Benjamin and Aunt Rachel. He, and yes, this is a quote, "love my soccer socks!!!" We're not sure he fully understands what soccer socks are, but he sure does love them.

Trains with Grandpa

May 18: After his party, Gabe got to spend some great time with Suzki, Bird, Grammy, and Grandpa. He is really excited about the trains he got from Grandpa, and especially loved hanging out and playing with Grandpa and everyone else!

New Book

May 18: Gabe got an amazing new book about firetrucks from his cousin Bird. He LOVES it!

Gabe's Birthday Party

May 18: This morning we had a great birthday party for Gabe. Luckily we got great weather, and we were so thrilled to be joined by so many good friends and family. We think 2 is going to be a great year for Gabe! For more great pictures of the day, check out Uncle Seth's website or the Shanoff Family's smugmug page!

Good Helper

May 18: today is Gabe's birthday party, so he and mom decided to make a fruit salad for our guests. Gabe was a great helper!

Night Night Grammy

May 17: this afternoon Grammy came to hang out, and we had a great time. Gabe and Grammy hit the playground and took a great walk with Gabe's new tricycle. Then, Grammy read Gabe one of the new books she brought him. See you in the morning Grammy!

Gabe is TWO!!

May 16: Today Gabe turns two. Well, if we're being really specific about it, he turned two REALLY early this morning. He woke up pretty close to that time, and the day was great. He loved his new book about trucks from mommy, and was really excited to wear his green globe shirt to school for his special day.
At school today Gabe had a really special day. In the morning the class baked a cake for him and his friend Sebastian. Then, in the afternoon, mom and dad came to celebrate with Gabe at school. First all the kids sat together to sing happy birthday, and then it was time for the cake!

After cake the kids sat down for story time. Dad read one of Gabe's favorites to the whole class. Everyone loved it (and dad got an invitation to come back for a repeat performance!). Then there was DANCING!

When we got home Gabe got to talk to lots of his favorite people on the phone and told them all about his fun day. We can't wait for a great weekend. There will be pictures of the whole weekend here.

May 11: it was a beautiful Mother's Day here in NYC, so we headed out with sunglasses on. After a great breakfast, we went for a long walk to run some important errands. On the way home, we were lucky enough to find a fire truck parked right at the bus stop! Gabe got to hang out with the fireman, and spend a little time looking inside the truck.

Then later we took Gabe's new tricycle out for a spin on the Promenade!

May 10: This weekend Gabe got his first birthday present -- his tricycle from Grammy! Boy does he love it. We went to a great bike store to get it too, and he loved seeing the really big bikes and the helmets. He tried one on, but it turns out he doesn't need it until he's pedaling himself around (he just needs about 3 more inches!).

Gabe's Potty

May 8: In his new classroom, a lot of the kids are in the process of potty training, so Gabe asked for his own potty. We were happy to oblige (and sure won't miss those dirty diapers if this whole potty training thing really works), so got him a nice simple white plastic number. Problem is, he thinks the potty part makes a much better hat than a potty. Oh well... at least it's not just collecting dust!

Another "Smile"

May 7: Mom thought Gabe looked awfully cute this morning in his new globe shirt, so Gabe agreed to "smile" for a picture. Looks like this is a skill that he's still working on. It's pretty funny though, don't you think?

Manatee!

May 5: Today Gabe became a Manatee. That does not mean he became a sea-going mammal, but just that he moved up to the two-year-old room at his daycare. It's called the Manatee room. Gabe was really excited for his first day with "the big kids" and he was even willing to "smile" for the camera so mom could capture this momentous day. He had a great day too. He went outside twice, and both times (as he told mom later) "walked the WHOLE way." He also really loves his new friends in the room, and spent about an hour after getting into bed talking about them. We can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Teamwork

May 4: Lucky for us Kristin and Brendan came over yesterday for pizza and to hang out. Gabe and Brendan really liked playing together (for the most part), and they even managed to share a bit! Well, Brendan was happy to share, but Gabe was a bit grabby. Luckily Brendan was a great sport. Plus, there was pizza coming - that puts everyone in a good mood!

Keep Back 200 Feet

April 26: It was such a beautiful day in Brooklyn that we decided to take a walk by one of Gabe's favorite places: the Fire House. Not only were the doors to the fire house open, but BOTH trucks were outside. Gabe loved looking at them, and learned the difference between the engine and the hook & ladder truck.

On his own

April 26: Gabe is doing all sorts of things on his own now, and one of his favorites is the SLIDE!

Friends

April 25: After a lovely dinner with Harper and her mom, Gabe and Harper head home together.

Passover in Florida

April 18-21: We headed down to Gainesville to celebrate Passover with the Millers, et. al. It was a great trip, with fabulous food, lots of laughs, and delicious food! Gabe loved hanging out with his cousins, uncles & aunts, and of course Suzki and Pops. We also got to go to the Swamp and visit the alligator out front, and got some quality time with the water table. In all, though, his favorite part was the seder at Suzki & Pops' house where he did a great job kicking off the Four Questions with "Ma Nishtana," eating Matzah, and wearing his frog mask.
